Asked by Sawers if Riyadh is concerned over the backfiring of the extremist groups who have been armed and sent to Syria, Prince Bandar said all his country's efforts are aimed at "providing security for us and our allies and I assure (you) that I have the power to harness these reinforced streams, given my over 30-year-long experience in controlling and directing these Jihadi groups”.
On that note, it is worth quoting Bandar's veiled threat to Putin from the above cited Al Monitor article...
"I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics in the city of Sochi on the Black Sea next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us, and they will not move in the Syrian territory’s direction without coordinating with us. These groups do not scare us. We use them in the face of the Syrian regime but they will have no role or influence in Syria’s political future.”

Speculation on Capitol Hill has included the possibility the U.S. agencies operating in Benghazi were secretly helping to move surface-to-air missiles out of Libya, through Turkey, and into the hands of Syrian rebels.
It is clear that two U.S. agencies were operating in Benghazi, one was the State Department, and the other was the CIA.
The State Department told CNN in an e-mail that it was only helping the new Libyan government destroy weapons deemed "damaged, aged or too unsafe retain," and that it was not involved in any transfer of weapons to other countries.
But the State Department also clearly told CNN, they "can't speak for any other agencies."
The CIA would not comment on whether it was involved in the transfer of any weapons.
Meanwhile, a MANPADS free-for-all was underway...

I have been forced to make a difficult decision: to become complicit in crimes against the American people or walk away from nearly ten years of hard work by shutting down Lavabit. After significant soul searching, I have decided to suspend operations. I wish that I could legally share with you the events that led to my decision. I cannot. This experience has taught me one very important lesson: without congressional action or a strong judicial precedent, I would _strongly_ recommend against anyone trusting their private data to a company with physical ties to the United States.

British intelligence sources have informed WMR that a British Defense Ministry "D-Notice" issued on June 7 to British media organizations, including The Guardian and The Observer, both owned by the same company, served as a pretext to conduct the smear attack on WMR's editor on both sides of the Atlantic. A Confidential D-Notice was issued to the media organizations as a "DA-Notice 03," which was issued pursuant to media reports on "ciphers and secure communications" operations of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), Britain's National Security Agency partner. The DA-3 Notice was authorized by Foreign Secretary William Hague, who has responsibility for GCHQ and Britain's MI-6 foreign intelligence service.
D-Notices are merely advisory in nature but most media operations that receive them understand that they could be charged with violating the Official Secrets Act if choose to totally ignore such advisories.
When The Observer published on June 30 a front-page story quoting this editor on European nations' Third Party agreements to provide the NSA with intercepted data, the word went out from the very highest echelons of the David Cameron Tory-Liberal Democrat government to "attack the messenger."
