Guardian/WikiLeaks: US targets EU over GM crops
In response to moves by France to ban a Monsanto GM corn variety in late 2007, the ambassador, Craig Stapleton, a friend and business partner of former US president George Bush, asked Washington to penalise the EU and particularly countries which did not support the use of GM crops.
"Country team Paris recommends that we calibrate a target retaliation list that causes some pain across the EU since this is a collective responsibility, but that also focuses in part on the worst culprits.
"The list should be measured rather than vicious and must be sustainable over the long term, since we should not expect an early victory. Moving to retaliation will make clear that the current path has real costs to EU interests and could help strengthen European pro-biotech voices," said Stapleton, who with Bush co-owned the Dallas/Fort Worth-based Texas Rangers baseball team in the 1990s.

Feb. 11, 2014 - DW: EU allows DuPont Pioneer's GM supercorn
In a vote Tuesday, European affairs ministers allowed for the introduction of TC1507. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) do not oppose the technology. However, Agriculture Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich, of the CDU's Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union, has said he would do whatever he could to make the introduction of GM corn into Germany more difficult.
"We do not want to have the cultivation of [TC1507] in Germany," Friedrich told Bayern2 radio...
Days later, however, the Friedrich resigned...
Feb. 17 - Reuters: Merkel's conservatives replace farm minister who quit over leak
Angela Merkel's Bavarian allies chose defence expert Christian Schmidt on Monday to replace the agriculture minister who quit the German chancellor's cabinet after leaking information about a lawmaker being investigated for possessing child pornography.
Schmidt comes from the Christian Social Union (CSU), the Bavarian sister party to Merkel's Christian Democrats, as does Hans-Peter Friedrich, who was forced to resign last Friday for leaking the information when he was interior minister...
The curious timing aside, since Friedrich himself was not accused of possessing child pornography, the answer to our question mark headline pertaining to the GMO "ag-war" should be a weak yes - only incidentally, as "collateral damage".
On the other hand, the German politician who was implicated in possessing materials originating from the Toronto based Azov Films could have made himself a target on account of his crusades against the violent far right...

“The 44-year-old Edathy, well known in Germany for leading a 2012-13 inquiry into neo-Nazi killings, resigned from parliament last week, citing health reasons, and has threatened to sue the newspaper that first reported about the child porn suspicions earlier this week.”
It must be noted that the "pornography" Edathy is accused of possessing is relatively "soft" and not technically illegal in Germany; however he is alleged to have destroyed hard-drives and he claims that a lap-top was stolen from him. It is in any case politically damaging for knowledge of it to have been made public.
The company he was purchasing from is known to have a fluffy surface concealing a very hard underbelly. The public side is soft enough to be viewed on YouTube...

Add to all of this the account In Hilter's Shadow of a snuff film viewed by undercover investigator Yaron Svaroy in the company of German neo-nazis - among the very groups Edathy was campaigning against. As Edathy maintains his innocence, this question can be asked: was he targeted by an international criminal network involving both lingering Operation Gladio cells in Germany and a child porn circuit on the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea?
