In what is likely to be regarded as one of the more bizarre Supreme Court decisions in its history, Chief Justice John Roberts, the swing vote, changes his mind and upholds "Obamacare", though not without engaging in certain logical acrobatics with the constitutional definition of a tax, whereby the penalty (for not buying private insurance) becomes a "tax," and hence the mandate to buy private insurance, which was ruled unconstitutional, is not a mandate after all, but simply a write-off of the "tax". We, at this point, cannot begin to fathom the consequences of the ruling, and so we will refrain for now from the judgement as to whether Roberts is a tool or a genius. (The disjunction is exclusive; he will be firmly one or the other.) In many quarters, however, this was decidedly a day of infamy...
